This peer exchange is organized by OCHA and InterAction as co-chairs of the Global Protection Cluster Task Team on the Centrality of Protection. The purpose of this peer exchange is to reflect on progress made and challenges encountered in implementing the provisions of the IASC Protection Policy related to identifying HCT protection priorities and developing a system-wide protection strategy. A dedicated protection strategy, initiated and promoted by the HC through the HCT and informed by the Humanitarian Response Plan, can be a key guiding document for the humanitarian community to address the most urgent protection concerns and work toward collective protection outcomes. We can draw lessons from over a dozen HCT Protection Strategies that have been adopted, and those currently under development.
By gathering several experts actively involved in the creation and implementation of various strategies, we aim to identify best practices and lessons learned, as well as areas for improvement, and brainstorm around recommendations in this regard.
Panelists at the peer exchange will include
Mr. Ramesh Rajasingham, Deputy Regional Humanitarian Coordinator, Syria Crisis
Ms. Anna Rich, Protection Cluster Coordinator Ukraine
Mr. Max Bonnel, Humanitarian Affairs Officer & Inter-Cluster Coordinator, OCHA Ethiopia
Ms. Dalia Aranki, ProCap Advisor
In addition to being a useful exercise for all of us participants, the main takeaways from our conversation will be presented at a Stocktake event on the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Policy on Protection in Humanitarian Action and the Centrality of Protection, which will take place in October 2018 under the auspices of the Global Protection Cluster.
